One O'Clock Gun
Every day at exactly 1pm (except Sunday, Good Friday and Christmas Day), a gun is fired from Mills Mount Battery. Started in 1861 as a time signal for ships in the Firth of Forth — still happens daily.
- When: 1pm sharp, Mon-Sat
- Where: Mills Mount Battery (signposted)
- Tip: Arrive 12:50 to get a good viewing position
- Loud: covers ears or stand back if sound-sensitive

- Steep climb up the cobbled Royal Mile — wear grippy shoes
